Butter Up!

I want to talk to you about Butter.

Not the kind you spread prior to the layer of vegemite on your toast, but the stuff you sink your nails into.

..Confused?

In my latest pursuit for all things ‘natural’ (trust me I’m not a hippy…just an overly concerned little individual) I have happened upon the most amazing line of all natural nail polish. Cue the looks of distrust and yeah rights. It’s called Butter and it hails from the buzz of London.

Butter LONDON is the latest phenomenon of the nail industry and having taken an avid interest in the campaign for safe cosmetics, I have officially been won over. Butter LONDON is the only ‘3 free’ non-toxic nail lacquer that is readily available in select pharmacy’s and health food stores. Just to confirm too….they don’t chip away after a day of hard paper work. Each and every stunning nail colour is formulated without the use of Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP or Parabens and is an industry leader in even attempting to create a nail lacquer sans nasties.

Why am I not so interested in painting my nails with toxins? Well according to the U.S. National Toxicology Program formaldehyde is “reasonably anticipated” to be a human carcinogen. In addition to this, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) forbids toluene in tap water because it can trigger nervous system disorders and harm the liver and kidneys. DBP is banned for use in cosmetics in the European Union because it is a potential human reproductive or developmental toxin. The statistics from many peer-reviewed scientific studies clearly demonstrate that DBP is a likely endocrine disruptor, which means that it hinders your body’s natural hormone balance. And we all know what it feels like to have our hormones out of whack!

And if you aren’t so keen on the whole hippy nail polish stream, I know you will be won over by the colours. Founding Creative Director Nonie Creme, sits firmly backstage at Fashion Weeks across Europe, liaising with high end designers in order to shape and create the perfect collection and series of bespoke colours unique to the designers collection and personality.  This process is exclusive to butter LONDON and ensures that the designers have creative input for their catwalk and personal creations.  This is the only method in which butter LONDON allows their colour palettes to be formulated, so you know when you buy Butter you are buying a piece of Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein or Rachel Zoe…to name but a few.

Vena Cava Backstage

As for me right now, I am torn between Alexander Wang’s favourite nude, Yummy Mummy, or Vena Cava’s custom purple, Marrow. However, as Nonie Creme insists, “You can take risks with your lacquer that you would never take with your clothes”…and with that piece of advice I will opt for the “Snog” in highlighter pink.

So lovely readers…Anyone else tried these awesome colours? Why not duck out in your lunch break and grab a bottle for the weekend? Nothing like a pair of hot nails to go with the hot weekend ahead!
