Is a friend that leaves you out in the cold when their life is smooth sailing really a friend?

“Hey, how are you? I know we haven’t hung out for a while, but I’d really like to see you…I need to talk to you about Dan.”

Does this sound like one of your mates? You know, the “friend” who is needy-always by your side when she’s going solo; meets others through you; only does anything, it seems, when it is through you. 

BUT…the minute she shacks up with a new beau, makes her own social circle, she is yet to be found. She vanishes in obscurity. Your calls become unanswered and even unreturned.  While she once clung to your side for month – weeks have now passed and you haven’t seen her.

Then, low and behold, she shows up at your door front needing you. Her boyfriend has dumped her; she feels she’s not fitting in with the new peeps she’s been rolling with; something is wrong and she has come to you for your help.
