1posted 11th February, 2011 under Nutrition and Health Cabinet.
Have you looked in the mirror recently and seen a more mature version of yourself? Does it seem as if a pair of crows feet landed on your face overnight? Or a frown line made an unexpected visit to your forehead? If you’ve answered yes…
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF AGING!
While it certainly isn’t going to help our already lengthy list of insecurities, it is no reason to panic and immediately book in for dermal fillers or invasive measures. Aging, after all, is completely natural and should be embraced naturally.
Before I go into detail about helpful remedies, I have one very important disclaimer: 80% of skin aging i.e. premature wrinkles, lines and photo damage come from the SUN!
I must admit, my inital feelings after hearing that stat were mixed: Oh no, I’m screwed! I have spent so much time in the sun…but… yay! 10% must be genetic (no control) leaving only a small margin of my indulgences responsible for my skin’s demise!
I’ll have one more beer and a burger please…
But in all honesty, it is definitley wiser (oops! shouldn’t use that adjective for insecurity purposes) it is definietly healthier to minimize your indulgences for better skin quality…and STAY OUT OF THE SUN!
OK, moving onto 10 additional tips to mimimize the ugly wrath of aging…
1. Include an herb and antioxidant supplements in your diet. They will help fight free radicals in the body, a culprit to aging and disease, and promote better health. These include:
- Ginseng
- Gingko Biloba
- Rhodiola
- Maca
- L-Carnitine
- Alpha Lipoic Acid
- Green Tea
- Tumeric
- Vitamins A, C, E, & D
- Calcium
- Zinc
2. Try and include Yoga & Meditation in your daily routine as these decrease stress. Stress is an ager for the body and promotes cardiovascular & numerous health problems. Stress also parks itself on your face as frown lines!
3. Exercise as much as possible. Exercise keeps you more youthful because it releases endorphins (feel good hormones), combats stress and increases muscle tone.
4. Try Hypoxi. Hypoxi Dermology has been proven to help increase circulation to your skin, reduce cellulite and rebuild elasticity through a cupping action adapted from ancient Chinese medicinal principles. It gives wonderful results for the skin.
5. Monitor your diet. Restricting calories has been shown to increase life span. Furthermore, be sure to include more raw fruits & vegetables in your diet, as raw foods hold all their nutritional content boosting your vitamin intake.
6. Drink lots of water! When you stay hydrated you not only flush out the bad stuff, but you maintain a balance of the good. Your skin looks plumper when its hydrated, too!
7. Get a good night’s snooze. Sleeping at least 6 hours helps the body rejuvenate. It also minimizes under eye cirlces and fine lines.
8. Kick those cigs’ butts! Ok, we all know the billion reasons why not to smoke. But did you know that when you inhale a cig, that instant blast of warm air instantly and permanantely damages the skin cells around your mouth? Puckered lips are not a good look anyway.
9. Get intimate. Kissing, playing, touching, and sexing with your significant other has a long list of benefits. Increases oxytocins, circulation, feel good hormones, decreases cortisol and stress, improves mood and sleeping. This promotes better skin and better health. So go get freaky!
10. Read. Reading not only keeps your brain active and younger by preventing Alzheimers and Dementia, but it also fills in boredom moments, making you less likely to smoke or snack on sweets. Just don’t read in the sun!
