Beauty Secrets from the Femme Files

Keeping yourself well groomed is a great way to feel sexy, clean and polished. But before you book your next spray tan or mani/pedi there are some great tips you should follow that will help make the most of your grooming efforts.

  1. Always exfoliate before applying sunless tanner to ensure a clean and streak free application. Be sure to shave/remove hair one day prior to sunless tanning. Apply body lotion regularly to retain moisture and help maintain the tan.
  2. To maintain a mani/pedi be sure to book the appointment when you won’t be cleaning or doing anything that could possibly mess the nails up. To keep the mani/pedi as long as possible, apply a clear coat of nail polish every few days. Apply lotion to hands/feet and wear socks or gloves at night to keep hands and feet smooth.
  3. Exfoliate before waxing as it minimizes ingrown hairs. Also, avoid waxing close to menstruation as sensitivity in that area tends to be increased
  4. If going to a first time hair appointment, wear your hair in its natural, clean state so the stylist knows your hair condition to take into consideration for the style.
  5. If getting hair coloured don’t wash hair for a few days after to really allow the colour to soak in. To make the most of your hair colour, resist washing everyday to minimize fading and to decrease stripping of natural oils.
  6. When wearing hair extensions, be as delicate as possible with the lush locks to maximize their longevity. This means delicate brushing, washing, styling.

Going Against the Fashion Trend

Wandering through the women’s section at Myer the other day, I had to take a quick seat to fix my continually untying wrap sandal. As I fixed the nuisance and sat for a second, I couldn’t help but notice how all the different clothing sections display rather similar design. Even observing the women around Myer, there is no denying that there is a homogenous sense of style. Is it just me, or has everyone taken the same fashion tips from the latest copy of Grazia?

If you are able to read this sentence right now you already hold a power. A power called education. To get the information you are reading right now, you are probably using your own computer or at least have access to one.

Would you consider yourself fortunate?

You probably haven’t thought about it. Having an education and computer access seems quite basic.

But for the 50 million adolescent girls that live in poverty around the world, they lack all the essentials in life; Even something as fundamental as freedom.

At the ripe old age of 14, these poor girls are married and have children. Some may even be forced into selling their bodies to make a living to support their children and themselves.

Without any proper education or protection, they are at risk of contracting HIV.

It begs to ask the question-where is their chance at a life?

Well…A chance  was never given to these girls to begin with.

Even if they are lucky to survive, their children will have the same chances of living the exact same lifeless life. So this unpromising pattern will continue.

There is good news. The cycle can be broken if they are given opportunity.

With an education and access to medical care, these girls can grow up to live a prosperous and healthy life. When the time comes for them to want to marry and have children, they can take care and support their loved ones the right way. Then their children can have the same chance to a propitious future.

This is called The Girl Effect.

Go here http://www.girleffect.org/video to learn more, spread the word and donate. By ending poverty, we’ll begin to see a better life for these girls now and for the future girls to come.  Please share this post with your friends – 5 minutes can make a difference.
