I regularly catch my husband eyeballing other women, a drifted gaze here, a lingering look at the traffic lights – I don’t love it but it’s nature, and I suppose if he never looked at women I might be concerned. I often call him out on this behaviour, but he recently pointed out that I too check out other women and do so shamelessly. I’d never really noticed this phenomenon but girls love to observe each other too – what they’re wearing, how their accessories are put together, a cute hairstyle or sexy pair of stilettos.  And in fact – I think women do it more often than our male counterparts.

Obviously it’s not these attributes my man is noticing, and I guess I do look at other attributes to, for example, I can appreciate a great pair of breasts or a perky bum as well as any man, and silently congratulate that female on an impressive gym regimen or just good genes. It’s human nature to observe others and as long as it is done discreetly, I think it’s acceptable. But there is a fine line between observing out of admiration and making a woman feel uncomfortable.

There are men out there that think that ogling or wolf whistling a woman walking down the street is perfectly OK.  I don’t think this is flattery – but an insult to women.  What ever happened to paying a woman a compliment?  Or is it the case that whenever a beautiful woman walks past, all men can manage to do is purse their lips and blow?
